Workshops for Faculty Search Committees
Recruiting and Hiring Faculty
WISELI's workshop, Searching for Excellence and Diversity®, provides faculty with information, advice, and techniques for:
- Running effective and efficient search committees
- Recruiting a highly qualified pool of diverse candidates
- Understanding the potential influence of unconscious bias on evaluation of candidates
- Ensuring a fair and thorough review of candidates
- Developing and implementing an effective interview process
- Successfully hiring selected candidates
Workshops for UW-Madison
WISELI offers the workshop, Searching for Excellence and Diversity®, to search committee chairs and members in several different venues and formats:
- Workshops designed for schools/colleges on the UW-Madison campus in cooperation with the school's/college's Dean, Equity and Diversity Committee, Human Resources Department or other unit.
- Cross-college workshops for search committee members who cannot attend the workshop/s scheduled for their school/college, or for faculty serving on search committees in any other UW-Madison school/college.
- Department workshops: Upon request, WISELI can present a department-wide workshop.
Workshops are offered annually during the FALL semester, or upon request. The schedule for fall 2018 is available here. Please contact us for more information.

- Consulting with search committees about the search process
- Advice and resources for accommodating the needs of faculty candidates with disabilities.
- The Office of Human Resources (OHR)
The Office of Human Resources produces the online Recruitment Toolkit which provides valuable information and resources for recruiting applicants. OHR employs a Recruitment Specialist, Adin Palau, who can provide you with advice and recommendations for recruiting diverse and excellent applicants.
